Dear Congress...

An open letter to Congress:

Dear Congress:
Having reviewed your track record on administering the financial affairs of this country, it would seem to be prudent to replace you effective, November 2012.

Did you really think we could go on for decades without balancing the budget and that there would be no consequences?

You could have taken draconian action, or you could have taken a more measured approach, but the truth is you have taken no action and now our Social Security and our credit rating are in jeopardy; our economy and our ability to deal with recession is compromised; our social safety net can no longer be sustained at present levels; and our reputation in the world has suffered.

We don't doubt that you will be telling us that it wasn't your fault; that you were unable to control spending; that there are sacred cows, that there is a lot of pressure in Washington, and that we should look at all the good that you have done. You may want to turn our attention to other issues, blame the opposition, or even start a small war to keep us from thinking about the impending financial train wrecks that you should have taken action to avert. No matter. You had your turn, and now you must go. Enjoy your ill-deserved pension...while it lasts.

Sincerely,

Voters

Montgomery McFate has knocked me off of Google...

The controversy surrounding Montgomery McFate has pushed my blog far down on Google searches.  I don't know the woman, but she waded into the hornet nest called the Gulf War providing sociology consulting for the US Military, to help soldiers better understand their dealings with people of the Middle East. For example, when US soldiers hold up their hand to stop Iraqi's from entering a checkpoint, many would, inexplicably proceed, often resulting in gunfire and death.  To Iraqi's that hand gesture means "welcome".  Training soldiers to communicate effectively means fewer fatalities due to miscommunication. Of course, the idea is to win the war, so the sociology is used to gain advantage in battle as well. I personally think it is better to wage war as humanely as possible, than to just shoot and ask questions later.  However, war is hard to justify, especially when nuclear weapons are hard to find (either because they didn't exist, or more likely, given Saddam's treatment of the UN inspectors prior to the war, because they were moved to Iran before the Gulf War was engaged - why would he evict the inspectors if no weapons of mass destruction were to be found?).

In any case, Montgomery McFate has stolen the McFate spotlight for now. :-(
