Television is not the opiate of the masses...

Television is not the opiate of the masses. It is the God of the masses. Like the idols of old, it sets in a hallowed place in the center of the house, and every day the whole household will sit reverently before it recieving its revelations.

Anyone who disturbs this worship, will be hushed, or expelled, except during commercial breaks, when all are permitted to speak, or visit the refrigerator, or pee.

Ah, but the joys of DVR or Tivo mean we can put the "God" on hold in order to pee or whatever. So it becomes sort of a half-god, because now we only have to pay attention to it when it's convenient - wait a minute, isn't that how we treat God anyway?
