The Pew Forum has created a very useful tool for tracking the same-sex marriage issue. The issue is huge and divisive. Gays couples want medical and insurance benefits offered to non-gay couples. Religions fear persecution perhaps even imprisonment (as is happening in some countries) for their beliefs and the loss of ability to teach their beliefs (freedom of speech). Religious business owners fear being targeted and even disenfranchised (losing their businesses) because of their beliefs. The stakes are high. Someone has to lose. This may be the most divisive issue our nation has ever faced.
