Environ Mental; Part 1

Right now electric cars are all the rage. I think they are fine, but politicians who point to these as the way to save the environment are delerious. Yes, you save gasoline--because you are using electricity instead. Most of the electricity in this country comes from burning coal. I admit, this could be good for downtown LA. The smog will be moved to the coal plant outside the city limits. And it could reduce our reliance on Arab oil. However, it won't have much of a net effect on the environment. It sounds great in a presidential speech though, eh? On the other hand, wind power, solar power, tidal power - yes. I'm for that. Then bring on the electric cars.
